The Slovenian government is planning to subsidise flights from Ljubljana to Frankfurt Airport. According to EX-YU Aviation News, the Slovenian government believes subsidising airlines to Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, and Brussels will improve Slovenia’s connectivity to European airports.
This year, the national Slovenian carrier filed for bankruptcy. In September 2019, Adria Airways ceased operations. Adria Airways was transporting around 1 million people per year on 20 airplanes, and mainly to Europe.
This month, Marjan Šarec, Slovenian Prime Minister, said that “the creation of a new national airline, be it fully or partly state-owned, is highly unlikely.”
